The
gallbladder is an organ just under the right rib cage. It
stores the bile, or liquid made by the liver to digest fats.
The gallbladder is actually a large muscle that contracts
and forces the bile into the intestine when we eat. Gallstones
can form in the gallbladder. Often there are no symptoms,
however if a stone blocks the outlet of the gallbladder, a
gallbladder "attack", or pain, may develop. People
live perfectly normal lives without their gallbladder, should
it need to be removed.
